Adoption Finalization Day!!!!!!!!!!

This morning was Son's adoption finalization hearing! Woot!  *happy dance*

During the hearing, Daughter came and jumped on my lap in the witness stand. Kinda cute. The judge was completely ok with it 😊

Before the hearing we took some pics

With Grammy and Grampy

With auntie and Grandma (my sister brought her 2 girls with, but by the time papa arrived with them we were done with picturesque pics)

Yay!!!!

Our legal team and our social worker posed with us after the hearing.

It was over by 10:10!  We all went out to eat to celebrate 😊

Daughter and Son's first night sharing a room!

Son likes his new bed! As does daughter... who assumed she got to sleep in it last night when she saw it.....

After explaining that it was Son's bed, we told her how important it was to never put a blanket or pillow in there with him.

The night could have gone better but it wasn't the worst possible.  Son woke to eat twice.  He woke at 6 am and he had wet through his diaper (size 5 diapers were delivered today! :) and I quickly got him up and out of their bedroom.

Daughter was (is) pretty tired after a weekend playing at the lake with grandparents and cousins, so I figured she'd probably sleep late.  Wrong!  She was up at 7:15 (as opposed to her usual 9).

This morning we tried Son's first nap in the movie/storage room with the iPad playing some white noise.  Daughter didn't think it was fair that Son got the iPad so she went in and turned it off after he had been sleeping only 20 minutes...  So he went back down for another nap at 10:15 in their room with the air filter supplying the white noise.

Daughter and I painted, did a worksheet, played, and had lunch.  I went to the bathroom and came out to see her sneaking into their bedroom.  I whisper/yelled- as only a mother of an infant can- to get her to stop, but in she went.  I hurried to the door and saw her quietly climb into her bed.

Did I mention that Vacation Bible School starts in an hour?

Sleep training

Son wakes up 3-4 times a night. If he doesnt, he wakes more!  So my aunt suggested a book that she used with her kids. We got it and started training last night....

Daughter was at Grammy and Grampys house last night (she was supposed to stay through Sunday, but she got homesick and is on her way back now). We decided it's a great time to start!

Son and Daughter will be sharing a room so I wanted to do sleep training when Daughter wasn't here so he didn't wake her. Last night went better than expected. He cried, but I didn't!  And he really didn't cry that long. Then this morning he slept until 8!

His naps today are going great. He's gone down without fussing for both.

Hopefully it keeps going smoothly!  We're planning on having him in our room tonight and then Daughter is going to the lake with my parents this weekend. He'll have the room to himself again and hopefully we'll finish sleep training!

Mrs Weasley crows

Turns out the chicken we have been calling Mrs Weasley all this time is a cockerel. For those who aren't up on their chicken lingo, cockerel is a young male past the chick stage but not yet adult rooster.

This morning while feeding the cats I heard s crow from the coop. Since two of the chickens have larger combs, I was thinking it could've either. But I let them out and heard it again from none other than Mrs (ahem, Mr) Weasley.

Makes sense. He is by far the largest and his legs are twice as thick as anyone else's.

Now we'll probably need to figure out how to butcher him and do that in the next month or so. Unless we decide to keep a Cock?  I don't know....

Love

I asked Mat to cut the strawberries last night. After the kids are in bed he told me that they didn't all fit in the container I had given him so he had to figure out something else to do.

I laughed hysterically because I was really tired and I was picturing him chucking strawberries out the window. He laughed with me and told me that he had just use tinfoil. I laughed even harder wondering why he didn't at least use a baggie if he hadn't thought to use Tupperware.

I awoke this morning and this is what I found

I married the sweetest guy 😁❤️💕😍

The Weasleys

We've dubbed the chickens "the Weasleys", because they're all gingers and they live in a crooked house 😂

The only one we can differentiate is the largest, now called Mrs Weasley.

They've been free ranging for a few hours a day for almost a week. At first I wanted to keep them contained. That went swimmingly, as you can see....

So I've just been letting them out and then rounding them up after a few hours. We're blowing a whistle every time we feed them so that hopefully they'll just start coming when they hear it. We'll see how that goes.

The first night getting them back in went ok. I had to pick them each up and put them in the coop. The second night went horribly. It took me over an hour to get them all in. Eventually I just had to set up the rock wall from the old playset for them to meander up when I shooed them in.

So we made a ladder (by we I mean Mat) and have out that up each day when we open the door. It's been getting easier each day.

Last night when we went to round them up we couldn't find them. They were all sitting in the coop!

Horse ride and chickens

The kids and I had a fun and busy day yesterday. We went to the lake in the morning to play with some cousins and grandparents

And then we went to my Uncle and Aunts to pick up our chickens. While there, Daughter got her first horse ride!

She loved it!

Then we got our chickens...

Mat worked tirelessly last night to fix the coop after the storm the day before. I'm amazed at how much he got done!  He's amazing!  I was able to go out and help a bit once the kids went to bed, but he did pretty much all of it.

Storm

There was a big storm last night. Over 1.5 inches of water and wind 70mph.

The good news, the new play set stayed up!

The bad news, the coop tipped and the roof peeled off   We were supposed to get the chickens today!!!!  (We did, I'll update on that later)

The antenna that we use as a flag pole and for Christmas lights bent. Never before has that happened!

But we fared pretty well compared to a grain elevator in a neighboring county....

Chicken Coop progress

We're getting chickens! We had been planning it since we moved up here but just never got around to building a coop. We decided to put it off another year because of Son needing so much attention.

We had some family over for Memorial Day and my aunt told me she'd give us some chickens and help design a coop. She and my uncle have raised all sorts of animals for years, so I was excited to get their help. She said that the old play set (that had blown over teice and was structurally unsound) by cutting off the legs

We got started right away!

Mat had a busy week, so he just got around to doing more on it today.

Wow!!!

He got so much done today!  In 90 degree heat. He's still got plenty of work to do, but he thinks he'll be done in about a week. We can get our chickens! 😄

Train ride!!!

Daughter and I went for a train ride today!

My dad met us and took Son for the duration of the ride so I thought it would be a special mommy daughter date. Oh goodness. She had a melt down when my dad took off with Son. Woah. I thought it was kind of sweet, though, because she was so upset to not be with her brother.

When I finally got her into her car seat (after a FaceTime with daddy) we went to the train.

It was a two hour trip that ended in the same town we began. The 20 minute wait to go back was a bit rough. Daughter is not good at sitting still!

But she loved it.

First zoo trip of the year

We went to the zoo for the first time this year. What a busy day to choose!  We had to stand in line for about 10 minutes (ordinarily there is no line!) and there were about 8 field trips.

After the carousel, Daughter did not want to leave. I'm thankful that we had cousins there and her cousin was able to convince her to leave.

We went to the library after the zoo. It didn't go exceedingly smoothly when we had to leave, but no fit!

First tooth!

Bottom left

We had a play date out here this morning. So fun!  One of the boys found a worm that became beloved by all by the time they left. He placed the worm on the play set (his mom said he couldn't take it home 😉) and told Daughter to watch it.

As they pulled away, Daughter said "I gotta watch the worm!"

It's dead. But she's watching it 😜
