Daughter was born Monday!

Our daughter was born on Monday via somewhat emergent C Section.  The Version was unsuccessful (and very painful!) and even though I was on some meds (terbutaline) to slow my uterine contractions, they still sped up and were 6 to 7 minutes apart by the time we were done.  Our options at that point were to have a C section that day, or very early Tuesday morning.  They warned us that if we waited until morning, I might go into labor on my own and the cord would probably be pushed out first.  That would put Daughter at risk, so the decision was easy but heart breaking.

Mat has been absolutely amazing.  With the unplanned C Section, baby blues hit me pretty hard yesterday.  He's my rock.

We got home yesterday.  We're all sleep deprived.  My milk has come in very well and Daughter is breast feeding OK... she should be doing better but she keeps slipping now that I'm producing so much.  So It's been a few feedings since a good latch.  Also, Mat has to help each time so we're "Team Family" working at getting Daughter enough to eat.  We've got a pump and we're seriously considering pumping and giving her a bottle just so that she gets all the milk... we're meeting with lactation today and hopefully Monday.  Hopefully we can get this figured out!

Here are some pics :)

Not sure where the dark hair comes from... both genetic parents had blonde listed as their natural color.  I'm thinking that one of them must use bleach ;)

She's beautiful and perfect, though!

  1. Congratulations. I have been following your blog since your FET. I also have a daughter through Embryo Adoption and she was born with a full head of black hair. It is now a lovely chestnut brown with a lot of blonde highlights....so anything is possible. She is beautiful. I'm sorry you had to have a c-section. My first baby was also breech and we chose to do a c-section and didn't even bother with the version since the success rate on them is quite low. Happy healthy baby is all that matters right? And...yes...when your milk first comes in it makes it hard for baby to latch purely due to the size of your breast....but it will calm down and adjust to her intake. I did pump a little to relieve the pressure but what really helped when I was engorged was a nipple shield so baby could still latch correctly and get a good feed. If you pump and give the bottle...you may pump more than baby would naturally take and then you will be in an oversupply situation which can cause gas and other issues. If at all possible...let your body adjust to what baby needs. It just takes a couple days after your milk comes in for that to happen. Once again...congratulations. She is beautiful.

  2. Congratulations!! She is so so precious! I love that full head of hair too!

I'm sorry you had to have a C-section, but she is here, safe and so beautiful. Motherhood will take a little adjusting to, but sounds like Mat is a perfect helper and supporter. So happy for you guys.

  3. Congrats. It made my day to see this exciting news. I do understand the emotions of a c-section (can't our bodies do anything right?), but how amazing is it that your body is feeding her!!!

Leland's genetic parents both have dark hair. He was born with dark hair. And you've - of course - see the pictures of his blonde locks.

    Congrats again mama!

When you're feeling down about your CSection, read this:

Your daughter has light eyebrows so her hair will probably lighten up :)

    1. Actually, with how she's been feeding lately, I think I might need enough to feed an army!

  7. She is absolutely beautiful and I am so happy for you guys!

I had a c-section at 31 weeks because of severe preeclampsia. Unfortunately, my c-section was one of those rare statistics that resulted in a hematoma that caused a second surgery te next day. And yet, God has been so good to all if us! Both myself and my 31 weeker, now two year old twins! By His grace alone, you would never know that was such a hard time for us.

    1. I know that C Sections are sometimes necessary... I just never thought I'd be one of those cases. We studied the Bradley method and Birth Free... nothing to prepare me for a c section!

  8. Oh I love this news!!! Been following your journey for almost a year and this is such a happy ending. Oh and my friends babies are always born with almost black thick hair but it has always ended up turning blonde for their girls ;)

  14. I'm just now catching up on your blog- your daughter is beautiful!
Good for you for making the best choice for your baby!! (some natural-minded mommas are so set in their plans that they put the desire for a certain birth ahead of baby's health.) I'm sure it's dissapointing, but I'm glad daughter is here safely. (I consented to induction 36 hours after water broke with no contractions- and then an epidural, which led to increased pitocin, fetal distress, hemorrhage and trouble nursing. And I cried with each intervention b/c it's not how I wanted things to go- but my miracle adopted baby arrived safe and healthy.)
Anyway, CONGRATS!! Your daughter is beautiful. Enjoy every minute- even the long, tiring minutes. It goes by all too fast!
