Love

I asked Mat to cut the strawberries last night. After the kids are in bed he told me that they didn't all fit in the container I had given him so he had to figure out something else to do.

I laughed hysterically because I was really tired and I was picturing him chucking strawberries out the window. He laughed with me and told me that he had just use tinfoil. I laughed even harder wondering why he didn't at least use a baggie if he hadn't thought to use Tupperware.

I awoke this morning and this is what I found

I married the sweetest guy 😁❤️💕😍

The Weasleys

We've dubbed the chickens "the Weasleys", because they're all gingers and they live in a crooked house 😂

The only one we can differentiate is the largest, now called Mrs Weasley.

They've been free ranging for a few hours a day for almost a week. At first I wanted to keep them contained. That went swimmingly, as you can see....

So I've just been letting them out and then rounding them up after a few hours. We're blowing a whistle every time we feed them so that hopefully they'll just start coming when they hear it. We'll see how that goes.

The first night getting them back in went ok. I had to pick them each up and put them in the coop. The second night went horribly. It took me over an hour to get them all in. Eventually I just had to set up the rock wall from the old playset for them to meander up when I shooed them in.

So we made a ladder (by we I mean Mat) and have out that up each day when we open the door. It's been getting easier each day.

Last night when we went to round them up we couldn't find them. They were all sitting in the coop!

Horse ride and chickens

The kids and I had a fun and busy day yesterday. We went to the lake in the morning to play with some cousins and grandparents

And then we went to my Uncle and Aunts to pick up our chickens. While there, Daughter got her first horse ride!

She loved it!

Then we got our chickens...

Mat worked tirelessly last night to fix the coop after the storm the day before. I'm amazed at how much he got done!  He's amazing!  I was able to go out and help a bit once the kids went to bed, but he did pretty much all of it.

Storm

There was a big storm last night. Over 1.5 inches of water and wind 70mph.

The good news, the new play set stayed up!

The bad news, the coop tipped and the roof peeled off   We were supposed to get the chickens today!!!!  (We did, I'll update on that later)

The antenna that we use as a flag pole and for Christmas lights bent. Never before has that happened!

But we fared pretty well compared to a grain elevator in a neighboring county....

Chicken Coop progress

We're getting chickens! We had been planning it since we moved up here but just never got around to building a coop. We decided to put it off another year because of Son needing so much attention.

We had some family over for Memorial Day and my aunt told me she'd give us some chickens and help design a coop. She and my uncle have raised all sorts of animals for years, so I was excited to get their help. She said that the old play set (that had blown over teice and was structurally unsound) by cutting off the legs

We got started right away!

Mat had a busy week, so he just got around to doing more on it today.

Wow!!!

He got so much done today!  In 90 degree heat. He's still got plenty of work to do, but he thinks he'll be done in about a week. We can get our chickens! 😄
